Wildland-Urban Interface Building Code Training Sessions

Chapter 7A of the California Building Code - Materials and Construction Methods for Exterior Wildfire Exposure - was approved by the Building Standards Commission in September, 2005. This new chapter of the code applies to new construction in Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) areas. It will establish minimum standards for the protection of life and property by increasing the ability of a building to resist intrusion of flame and burning embers.

CAL FIRE Office of the State Fire Marshal is offering a four-hour training course covering Wildland Urban Interface Building Standards (WUIBS) requirements. The course is designed for building officials, fire officials, planners, building materials manufacturers, developers, architects engineers and other building professionals.

This course will:

  • Provide information on the mapping of Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ),
  • Provide information on the State Fire Marshal standards that apply to Chapter 7A, and other information on testing requirements and acceptance criteria for exterior-use building materials, and
  • Provide information on the State Fire Marshal Building Materials Listing (BML) program that provides a procedure for testing, labeling, and listing products that comply for use.
