Wildfire Safety Training for Reporters and Photographers

Sacramento - Covering a wildfire can be dangerous for reporters and photographers unless they understand the basics of fire behavior, and what to do if the worst happens. With that in mind, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) will offer a 3-hour training for media representatives who will be covering wildfires this summer.

The training will include how to use the system to get the story safely and quickly, media access rights and laws, the basics of wildfire behavior, and professional recommendations on how to survive in several emergency situations. Dress is casual, because we will also practice the timed deployment of an emergency fire shelter.

To accommodate different schedules, two identical 3-hour classes will be offered Wednesday, May 24, 2000, from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM and from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the CDF Sacramento Headquarters, 1416 9th Street, 15th floor, Room 1506-12.

Last minute attendees will be welcome, but we would appreciate confirmations in order to plan for handouts and fire shelters. Please call (916) 653-5123.
